K. J. Yesudas

J. Yesudas full name is Kattassery Joseph Yesudas. He is the shining star of South Indian industry, who has sung more than 60000 songs in nearly every Indian language and some foreign languages too, in his illustrious career spanning a period of nearly five decades. His versatility is his greatest asset, and he has sung all kinds of songs including devotional, classical and popular film songs.He is a musician and playback singer. K.J. Yesudas sings not only in one language but in many other languages like Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Odia, Bengali, Telugu, Arabic, LAtin, Russian, English, and many more. He is one of the greatest singers who has won the National Film Award a record eight times.

 

Hariharan

Hariharan is an Indian playback singer who has sung for Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Gujarati and Rajasthani films, an established and foremost ghazal singer and composer, and one of the pioneers of Indian fusion music . S P Balasubramaniam

Featuring next on the list of greatest South Indian singers of all time is S P Balasubramaniam, who has voiced for as many as 40000 in different languages. His full name is Sripathi Panditaradhyula Balasubrahmanyam who is a playback singer, director, actor, dubbing artist. He sings songs in many regional languages like Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, etc. He has recorded songs in 16 languages. S.P. Balasubrahmanyam has 6 National Film Awards for best Male Playback Singer. Not only this he has been awarded with many awards. He has been honored with the National Award for Best Male Playback Singer, in addition to civilian awards like Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan.

 

T M Soundararajan

T M Soundararajan aka TMS is a true legend among greatest South Indian singers ever, with a career of six decades, in which he has recorded 20000 movie songs and 3000 devotional and classical songs. This amazing singer gave his voice for songs in eleven different languages. Thoguluva Meenatchi Iyenger Soundararajan is full of T. M. Soundararajan. He is a playback singer and carnatic musician. He has recorded songs in many regional languages like Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, etc.

 

Ghantasala

Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao was an acclaimed Telugu singer and composer, who will always be remembered for his glorious contribution to Indian music. He also performed for other South Indian languages like Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam and composed music for nearly 100 South Indian films. Ghantasala Venkateswararao is a playback singer, film composer. He has his work in the field of cinema. He was awarded Padma Shri by the Government of India. The legendary singer bid adieu to the world in 1974. 

 

A R Rahman

One of the best known international faces of Indian music, Oscar-winner Alla Rakka Rahman, better known as A R Rahman, hails from the south of India. However, singing is just one of the ways he is connected with music, also being known for composing, songwriting, and music production. He is a master of fusion music, incorporating Indian classical music with electronic and world music as well as traditional orchestral arrangements.

 

Shankar Mahadevan

A music composer and playback singer, Shankar Mahadevan rose to fame through the three-member music composing team of Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa, together being popularly known as Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. A recipient of several awards, he received his first award as playback singer in the Tamil film Kandukondain Kandukondain while collaborating with AR Rahman.

 

P Jayachandran

The evergreen romantic voice of Malayalam cinema, Paliyath Jayachandran – now in his 70s – sounds as young as he did when he first started singing some 50 years ago. For his soulful voice, he is thus known as ‘Bhaava Gayakan’ aka ‘Soul Singer’. A recipient of several state and national awards, Jayachandran has sung in all the south Indian languages and in Hindi.

 

Vijay Prakash

Vijay Prakash is an Indian singer and music composer. He has given his voice for Hindi films such as Blue, Yuvvraaj, Swades, Kaal, Lakshya, Matrubhoomi, Tere Naam, Cheeni Kum, Raavan and Force. He has also performed in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Marathi movies. He is one of the judges for the Kannada reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa on Zee Kannada. He has also performed shows with Zakir Hussain. He won the Karnataka Government's 'Best Playback Singer' award for the year 2016 for the song "Namooralli Chaligaaladalli" from the film Beautiful Manasugalu. Prakash was also the brand ambassador of Nissan Evalia Moves like music' campaign, which featured six young prominent artists of India. He is one of the very few Indian musicians who have had the honour of performing at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA.

 

Rajesh Krishnan

Rajesh Krishnan is an Indian melody playback singer and film actor. Although he is popularly known for his works in Kannada films, he has sung 5000 songs in Kannada, 500 in Telugu and more than 250 songs in Tamil, Hindi and other languages. Making his mainstream debut in the film Gauri Ganesha (1991), he has sung for many feature films, devotional albums, theme albums and commercials in a career spanning over almost two decades. He won Nandi Award for Best Male Playback Singer for the film Ninne Pelladatha in (1996).
